9 March 2009 OFMDFM Statement

In light of the events in Antrim, the First Minister and deputy First Minister postponed their flights to the United States to deal with the immediate aftermath of the attack at the Massereene Barracks. They will resume their US programme on Tuesday evening.
Following the attack the Ministers said: “At this time our thoughts are with the bereaved families and the injured.
"We will not allow those behind Saturday night’s attack to divert us from the important work of government and of the task of building prosperity and attracting much needed inward investment necessary in the current economic climate.
"We intend to pick up our planned schedule in the US on Tuesday evening and to fulfil our original and important series of engagements. It is what the community would expect at this time.
"Those responsible for such attacks and those who aid them have no support within the community and have nothing to contribute. Their activities are futile and we are determined that they will not succeed.
"We were elected to lead and through the democratic institutions, deliver for everyone throughout the community. We will not allow a tiny mindless minority to set our political agenda or divert us from delivering for the whole community."
