17 March 2009 Robinson and McGuinness hold talks with Obama

First Minister Peter D Robinson MP MLA and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MP MLA have met with US President Barrack Obama at the Whitehouse in Washington DC today.
The Ministers discussed a range of issues including the current economic downturn and recent political developments in Northern Ireland.
Mr Robinson said: "There is a new administration in Washington and they have brought with them a sense of dynamism, vibrancy and urgency. America is changing and so is Northern Ireland.
"At home we also have a renewed hope and purpose, for the first time in decades a real sense of vibrancy hangs in the air at home. I am determined that we will not allow the opportunities we have worked so hard to achieve pass us by. Northern Ireland will build a new partnership with ! the United States based on reciprocation and respect."
Mr McGuinness said: "Much of what has already been achieved at home has been the result of our unique partnership with the United States. There are many things that separate our two cultures but ultimately and most importantly we are united by a common set of beliefs.
"These beliefs have helped us forge a truly productive partnership one that we will continue to build on by creating new partnerships, exchanging best practices and sharing our experiences."
Earlier in the day the Ministers addressed business and political leaders, at the annual St Patricks day Northern Ireland Bureau breakfast before meeting with Secretary of State Clinton.
