About us

The Northern Ireland Bureau is the diplomatic mission of the Northern Ireland Executive in the United States and Canada. Based in Washington D.C., our team works to strengthen and expand Northern Ireland’s connections across North America – engaging with partners in government, business, universities and the cultural sector

We are a trusted resource for individuals and organizations seeking to learn more about, and engage with Northern Ireland, whether through trade, education, policy collaboration or culture. Our mission is to showcase Northern Ireland as a confident, outward-looking region that is a great partner for global engagement. We do this by working closely with American and Canadian institutions (governments, universities, investors, cultural groups, and diaspora networks) to build meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships. Each year, we facilitate delegations, policy briefings, academic exchanges, public lectures and cultural events that strengthen transatlantic ties.

Northern Ireland’s global profile is rising, driven by its leadership in areas like cybersecurity, conflict resolution, financial technology, and the creative industries. With more than 34 million Americans and 500,000 Canadians trace their heritage to Northern Ireland, our connections run deep. The Bureau plays a key role in transforming these connections into new opportunities to visit, study, invest and collaborate.
