Strength Across Key Sectors
Northern Ireland is a leader in high-growth industries including cybersecurity, fintech, software, AI, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing. It is the #1 international destination for U.S. cybersecurity investment and a top global location for fintech. Belfast is also recognized as Europe’s leading city for new software development, reflecting the region’s deep talent pool and cutting-edge research capabilities.
A Growing Creative Hub
Northern Ireland’s film and TV sector continues to gain global recognition, driven by standout productions like Derry Girls, The Fall, and Game of Thrones, showcasing the region’s storytelling talent and scenic landscapes. The recent opening of Studio Ulster, a groundbreaking £72 million virtual production facility at Belfast Harbour, marks a major leap forward for the industry. Developed by Ulster University in partnership with Belfast Harbour and supported by Northern Ireland Screen, Studio Ulster is now one of the most advanced production campuses in the world.
Other Major studios such as Titanic studios, are also rapidly expanding, attracting high-profile North American partners like Netflix, Hulu, and Paramount. The region’s creative sector is thriving, supported by a skilled workforce, world-class facilities, and a vibrant cultural ecosystem. Most recently, Northern Ireland’s dramatic coastlines and forests served as the backdrop for the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, with locations like Dunseverick Castle, Tollymore Forest Park, and the Giant’s Causeway bringing the mythical Isle of Berk to life.
